The Spinners and the town say they have reached a mutual resolution on the team's Moor Park lease. The owner thanked fans and asked them to back the town.
The Town of Mooresville and the Mooresville Spinners say they have settled the summer baseball team’s lease of Moor Park. The two sides announced a “mutual resolution” in a joint statement Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The statement does not give the terms. It does not say whether the Spinners will play another season in Mooresville. But the team’s owner spoke of “the next chapter” and wished the town “many happy seasons to come when the updated Moor Park opens.”

What the owner said
John Wilcox, the Spinners’ principal owner, thanked fans “for more than a decade of support.” He credited the town’s contributions for the team’s years at the park.
“As we turn to the next chapter, we ask everyone who loves this team to join us in supporting the Town of Mooresville and keeping the conversation respectful and looking forward,” Wilcox said. “We do not support the negativity that has been directed at the Town or its leaders.”
What the town said
Mayor Pro Tem Eddie Dingler thanked the team for “their collaboration over the years.”
“While we are excited by the possibilities a new Moor Park brings, we would not be where we are today without the love of baseball that the Mooresville Spinners have supported in this town for more than a decade,” Dingler said.
The statement said the town will share more about “the future of baseball in Mooresville” and the park’s revitalization “in the coming months.”
The team and the park
The Spinners, founded in 2014, are a summer collegiate team: college players who spend their summer break in a local league. According to the team’s website:
- they won Southern Collegiate Baseball League titles in 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025
- they won the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League title in 2014
- their home is Moor Park, 691 S. Broad St.
The town began a large-scale renovation of the historic ballpark in early 2025, the statement said. At a ceremonial groundbreaking, the town said the project would make the park “a destination for summer baseball” and open it to other uses year-round. It also tied the work to its push to make downtown easier to walk. Read the town’s groundbreaking release.
What we do not know yet
The joint statement leaves several questions open:
- whether the Spinners have a new home field, or will play in 2027
- which team, if any, will play at the renovated park, and when it reopens
- what the resolution says about the rest of the lease
We found no Moor Park lease item on the Board of Commissioners agendas the town posted from July through Oct. 19. We will report the town’s plans when it releases them.
