Plaid Friday and Small Business Saturday
The Mooresville Downtown Commission calls it Plaid Friday: “Big boxers call it Black Friday. We think plaid is the new black.” On Friday, Nov. 27, downtown’s independent businesses hold a sip and shop from 10 a.m. to noon and stay open for shopping all day. On Saturday, Nov. 28, Small Business Saturday, downtown stores offer specials, open houses, refreshments and one-of-a-kind gifts all day along Main and Broad streets.
The commission’s shopping directory lists downtown stores with their addresses and phone numbers.
Mistletoe Sip & Shops: Dec. 4 and Dec. 18
On two Friday evenings, Dec. 4 and Dec. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., downtown businesses stay open late with open houses, treats, warm drinks, festive decor, holiday specials and a strolling barbershop quartet. They are the last two downtown shopping nights before Christmas.
Holiday markets
The town’s A Classic Christmas, 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, brings local artisans and food vendors downtown alongside ice skating and Santa visits. Details are in our holiday lights and Christmas events guide.
Big-box and shopping center hours
No Mooresville store or shopping center had posted its Thanksgiving or Black Friday hours when we checked on Oct. 11. Retailers usually announce them in November. Check each store’s own website before you go; we will add hours here as stores publish them.
Parking and traffic
- Christmas parade, Tuesday, Nov. 24: Main Street closes in sections from noon and cannot be crossed along the route; use Broad and Church streets. See our Christmas parade guide.
- Overnight parking downtown: since Oct. 1, 2026, the town tows vehicles left between 2 and 6 a.m. in the Charles Mack Citizen Center back lot (upper and lower, off Church Street), the public lot off Church Street between Moore and Center avenues, and the Liberty Park lot off Iredell Avenue, according to the town’s notice. Overnight parking is still allowed in the lot at Church Street and Iredell Avenue and on the street.
- Social District: the downtown Social District runs noon to 10 p.m. daily. Drinks bought at a permitted business can be carried inside the marked boundaries in the business’s specially marked cups; not every store takes part, so look for the decal.
