Memorial Day in Mooresville 2027: ceremonies, closings and trash

Memorial Day 2027 is Monday, May 31. It is the weekend Mooresville’s summer starts: the town’s War Memorial Recreation Center pool opens Memorial Day weekend. In 2026, Memorial Day brought a one-day delay for all trash and recycling routes. No 2027 ceremony had been announced when we checked; we will add ceremonies and parades as organizers post them.

Ceremonies and remembrance

The Town of Mooresville’s Remembrance Celebrations cover Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Sept. 11 memorial and the November Veterans Day week, with its Veterans Day Parade on Main Street. The town had not listed a Memorial Day 2027 ceremony when we checked.

The Field of Honor, the Mooresville-Lake Norman Exchange Club’s display of hundreds of American flags at the Lowe’s YMCA field on Joe Knox Avenue, began as a Memorial Day event and has since moved to the Fourth of July weekend; its 2025 listing ran July 2-5 at 170 Joe Knox Ave. See our Fourth of July guide.

Welcome Home Veterans, the military museum and gathering place at Richard’s Coffee Shop, 165 N. Main St., 704-663-0488, keeps a “Book of Honor” with the names of more than 23,000 veterans. It is a downtown stop for anyone marking the day.

The pool opens

The town’s War Memorial Recreation Center pool, 220 N. Maple St., is an outdoor pool with a zero-depth walk-in entry, a sprinkler play area, two 3-foot children’s areas, four lap lanes and a concession stand. Pool season is Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day, and hours are limited until the school year ends. The pool is closed to the public during group swim lessons and events. On the lake

Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest of the year on Lake Norman. Day use at Lake Norman State Park, 759 State Park Road, Troutman, is free; the park charges only for boat rentals, swim passes and camping.
