New to Mooresville? Start town water and sewer online, set up power with Duke Energy or EnergyUnited, and get an N.C. license and tags within 60 days.
Last checked Oct. 11, 2026. This page links our other guides and adds the start-service steps they do not cover. Facts come from the Town of Mooresville, Iredell County, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles and the utilities’ own websites.
Welcome to Mooresville. Start with three questions: are you inside town limits, which electric company serves the address, and which school district it is in. The answers decide who picks up your trash, who bills your water and which schools your children attend. The town’s main number is 704-663-3800.
First calls
- Town water and sewer, new account: utility billing, 704-663-3800, waterbilling@mooresvillenc.gov

Are you inside town limits?
Type your address into the town’s Personalized Sanitation Map: the town says houses in the blue or green areas get town services. Your county tax bill also shows whether the Town of Mooresville rate applies.
Water and sewer
Town water and sewer accounts start with an application for service, online or on paper, one per address. The town requires names, driver’s license and Social Security numbers for every owner on the deed or every renter over 18 on the lease; forms with the wrong number of people are rejected. Allow at least two business days to start or stop service. Bills are due on receipt and past due after 20 days; a 5% penalty is added after 5 p.m. on the 25th. Pay online or by phone at 1-888-598-4076.
Water restrictions: the town has been under Stage 2 water conservation measures since May. On Oct. 19 it allowed car washing and pressure washing again; sprinklers stay limited to Tuesday and Saturday nights (what changed). Rules are at mooresvillenc.gov/drought.
Electricity
The town does not sell power. Depending on the address, you will set up service with:
- Duke Energy: start, stop or move service on duke-energy.com.
- EnergyUnited, a member-owned cooperative: start and stop service; member support 1-800-522-3793.
Ask the seller, landlord or builder which company serves the home. Outage numbers are in our power outages guide.
Natural gas
Natural gas in North Carolina is delivered by four regulated companies and eight municipal systems, according to the N.C. Utilities Commission. The town does not run a gas system; ask the seller or landlord which company serves the address and whether gas is connected.
Internet
The FCC’s National Broadband Map lists the internet providers that report service at each address, with the technology and speeds they report. Enter your address and sign up through the provider’s own website.
Trash and recycling
Town trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk pickup are paid through property taxes. Request carts and alerts on the town’s moving page. Carts stay with the house. Details: our trash and recycling guide.
Driver’s license and car tags
The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ new residents page says that within 60 days of establishing permanent residence, new residents who drive must get an N.C. driver’s license, title their vehicles and register them. Registration can be due sooner: when you take a job here, or when your old state’s reciprocity period runs out. Vehicle property tax is then billed with your tag renewal under the state’s Tag and Tax Together system; see our property tax guide.
Property taxes and the homestead programs
Iredell County bills property taxes each August, due Sept. 1 and payable without interest through Jan. 5. North Carolina’s homestead programs (the elderly or disabled exclusion, the circuit breaker deferment and the disabled veteran exclusion) are filed with the county assessor on form AV-9 by June 1. Full rates and rules: our property tax guide.
Schools
Check your address in both the Mooresville Graded School District and Iredell-Statesville Schools finders; a Mooresville address does not decide it. See our schools guide.
Voting
Register at your new address 25 days before an election, or use same-day registration during early voting. See our voting guide.
Building, fixing and remodeling
Inside town, permits come from the town’s Building Permitting and Inspections Department, 704-799-4268. See our permits and zoning guide.
Pets
Iredell County Animal Services and Control runs the county shelter, rabies vaccinations and microchipping, 704-878-5424; its animal ordinance sets local pet rules. We did not find a separate town pet license on the town’s website.
